Hitch in S’pore’s bid is cleared

Bid Watch, News

A short excerpt of news from a recent Straits Times article by Terence Voon.

THE only hitch in Singapore’s bid to host the inaugural Youth Olympics in 2010 has been smoothed out, says the Republic’s International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Ng Ser Miang.

In the IOC’s initial report last month, Singapore scored well in all but one category - the feasibility of its proposed Games Village at the National University of Singapore’s University Town @ Warren.

The report voiced concerns that the project may not be completed in time for the Games in 2-1/2 years’ time.

Those fears were apparently allayed when an IOC official dropped by for a visit earlier this month.

‘The issue of the Games Village was addressed when they sent a construction specialist to Singapore,’ said Ng, who sits on the IOC executive board.

‘He was given a full brief and I believe the IOC’s concerns have been fully addressed.’

Plans for a back-up Village, using existing facilities at Nanyang Technological University, were also shared with the official.

All we can do now is keep our fingers crossed for the postal vote! Going to be slightly less updates as Christmas approaches, and examination stress keeps me from my honorable duty to country…
