Boys’ Town holds event in support of SYOG2010!
Bid Watch, News, Photos and Videos
As I mentioned before, it’s not only the individuals who have been actively supporting the bid, many organisations have also pitched in and shown their support in many different ways. Here we have an event by Boys’ Town showing one of the many creative ways to promote the Olympic spirit and our bid.
As part of Boys’ Town’s 60th anniversary celebrations, 1146 people set an unprecedented record of the most number of people being piggy-backed across a distance of six metres at Boys’ Town.
This is in support of Singapore’s bid for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, Mr Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary of Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) was the guest of honour and participated in the event. He piggy-backed Chua Shan You, 14, an Assumption English School (AES) student and Boys’ Town home boarder. Students and teachers from AES and Assumption Vocational Institute (AVI) which are part of the Boys’ Town community and campus as well as friends of Boys’ Town were involved in this feat.
This event is a joint initiative between four final-year communications students from Nanyang Technological University and Boys’ Town.
In line with the spirit of the Olympic Games, the act of piggy-backing also reflects a sense of friendship and solidarity among the participants who completed the task together as an organization. Boys’ Town’s record setting feat also showcases their support for Singapore’s youth sporting culture and community spiritedness.
