    Hi, may I know when was the official launch of the YOG website? And was the launch published in the media? Many thanks!!

Site improvements and a new contributor

News, Site

Alrighty, after the dust has settled and the overwhelming feeling of becoming the first host of the Summer Youth Olympics has worn off, we have started to get things moving again. The bid has become a dream, but it’s just the start of a journey to the 2010 games.

As many of you would have found out, our site (embarrassingly) crashed during the results announcement. Our sponsors hosting have been very apologetic, but it wasn’t really their fault. We clocked about 5000 page requests in that short span 5 minutes, each executing a pretty long script which overwhelmed the system. It was my fault, I apologise and we are tweaking the delivery systems backend to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Next, some eagle-eyed visitors would have noticed we have reworked (and are still improving) the categories.

  • Site: All news related to site issues;
  • Bid Watch: All news up to the point we won the bid;
  • Road to SYOG2010: All news from day of winning the bid;
  • Photos and Videos: All posts containing photos and media throughout.

We also have added a new contributor, Malcolm, who will help me run this and inject some new ideas in. More about him to come.

Last but not least, to keep up with our news, subscribe to our RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds!
