Singapore Plans To Participate in Asian Winter Olympics 2011.

News

First was the setting up of a Singapore Sports School in 2004 which marked Singapore’s commitment to developing a strong sports tradition and culture. The next key step was to invite the world stage to its city state through the winning of the bid to host the 1st summer Youth Olympics in 2010. This has clearly shone the light on Singapore’s sports scene and brought attention from the world to our city state.

Next, Singapore (a country without snow or winter) has once again showed its commitment to the development of sports through its announcement in planning to send a team to participate in the Asian Winter Games in 2011 (to be held in Kazakhstan). One of the events that we would be looking to participate in is Ice Hockey which falls in line with our country’s opening of an Olympic sized rink in 2009.

Remember the famous ice hockey movie “The Might Ducks”? I suppose we can now look forward to seeing a Singapore team flying on the ice in Kazakhstan or even in our little tropical island.

With all these recent developments in the sports arena in Singapore, the next few years leading up to 2012 would definitely be an exciting time for all athletes in Singapore (regardless of ages, gender and event).
