SINGAPORE 2010 LOGO DESIGN COMPETITION CLOSES MORE THAN 1,500 ENTRIES RECEIVED

Singapore, 29 August 2008 – More than 1,500 entries have been received for the Singapore
2010 Logo Design Competition.  Launched by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for
Community Development, Youth & Sports on 29 July 2008, the competition will close at
midnight today. 

As at 29 August, the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC)
has received 1,590 entries.  Of these, 856 came from youths, while the Open Category saw
734 entries.  Local entries made up about 75 per cent of all entries while the rest came from
around the world.  SYOGOC would like to thank all the participants for sending in their
creative designs.

“People around the world, especially the youth, have responded with enthusiasm to this
competition and it shows how excited they are about the Youth Olympic Games. The Games
belong to the people and their participation is important in shaping the Games.” said Mr. Ng
Ser Miang, Chairman of SYOGOC.
Assessing the entries will be a panel of 13 judges, comprising leaders from the creative
industry and sport circle. They are:

SYOGOC will be represented by its Chairman, Mr Ng Ser Miang and Chief Executive
Officer, Mr Goh Kee Nguan.  

The judges will assess the entries based on their originality, representation of Singapore,
appeal to a global audience and in particular the youth, relevance to the Youth Olympic
Games and the Olympic Movement.  From these entries, the judges will select the Overall
Best Design.  Five merit awards each will also be given out for each category.  The results
will be announced before the end of the year.
