Singapore unveils official logo of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games
The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games logo was officially launched today by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports.

Spirit of Youth – the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games logo – celebrates Singapore 2010 in an adventurous, open and fun way. It evokes the Singaporean sense of confidence and progress. A red flame represents the passion to learn and the power of positive thinking. A purple star symbolises excellence and the pride of representing one’s nation. A crescent reflects dynamic youth, full of promise. The active appearance of the “Singapore 2010” word mark comprises individual and unique characters that signify harmony among the diverse participants. The Spirit of Youth inspires all of us to express the Olympic spirit and celebrate the first-ever Youth Olympic Games.

Does it represent people whose head becomes a torch?
Bad use of colours here. Purple and green is an ugly match.
Also, for no apparent reason, there’s a sudden stroke of blue in the green patch, and a sudden dot of red in the “Singapore” word.
Why is the head looking down? Thought it’s something to be proud of? Hmmm….
Reminds me of SBS Transit. Not good.
The font is way too generic and the style is too stereotypically a “youthful” font. Maybe its just me but a unique, custom-made font would be very much more appealing.
Is this going to be the final logo? I hope there’s still a chance for improvement. It is the first YOG after all.
hmm.. not appealing enough!
Nice and simple. Youthful without being too childish (shades of Sydney 2000 perhaps). And energetic. The colours are, to a certain extent counter intuitive but they work. Type is fine. Also, and this is important, it’s neutral in terms of nationality. It is important that the logo can be claimed by every competitor and visitor no matter where they are from. it would have been a mistake and, I believe, ungracious to use the logo as too much of a national branding exercise. I think they’ve got it right. At the very least this a perfectly serviceable logo that will do the job just fine. Well done!
Ok, the logo looks fine but the explanations for the components are nonsense.
1. How does a red flame symbolise the power of positive thinking?
2. How does a purple (4 sided) star symbolisesexcellence and the pride of representing one’s nation?
3. The crescent seems a bit far fetched.
We can do better than this! Come on!
@lauises:Reminds me of SBS Transit. Not good.
LOL. The logo’s actually nice but the explanations kinda suck.
Coming from an Oldie whose first real “Youth” experience of an international Games right here in Singapore was the 1983 SEA Games. So yes, calm down, there is nothing to be excited about
One question: Is the “youth” on the logo skateboarding or surfing?
This logo does not even bring out the essence of the Games nor does it depict the image of Singapore.
I cannot even feel any movement or vibrancy when I look at it!
This logo is NOT alive!
Compare it to the one they designed for the Beijing Games and you will know I mean!
The only thing that this logo relates is the rojak-ness of the colours used. very rojak and very singaporean.
Not nice..colour dun match. Balakrishnan u got no taste. my opinion is not to put the torch as the head.. is like ur fired. and..NOT NICE! ee
too colourful not good
looks like a five yr old took some paint and splattered a few strokes..colours look dull..
probably it was coincidence tat made it look like something else besides a few strokes of paint..then some adult decided to make up a crappy explanation for it..not surprised if it’s true
