F.A.Q.

Here might be some frequently asked questions. If you have any more enquiries, please feel free to contact us.

I want to sponsor/be part of the games helping out. What should I do?

You should go to the official website at http://www.singapore2010.sg to sign up and contact the SYOG Organising Committee.

What is the Youth Olympic Games?

The purpose of the YOG is to complement the Olympic Games and “not to create mini Games,” explained Jacques Rogge. It would have a different character, and target youngsters aged between 14 and 18, adapted to the different sports.

Which other countries are bidding for the games?

In alphabetical order the 10 cities are Algiers Algeria, Bangkok Thailand, Belgrade Republic of Serbia, Debrecen Hungary, Guatemala City Guatemala, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Moscow Russia, Poznan Poland, Singapore, and Turin Italy.

Why do we have to register?

This is to provide accountability and legitimacy in an event of an audit to prevent ghost sites and emails from supporting the cause, and intentionally inflating the numbers. We want to have a clear and transparent system to show real support, not by plugging big numbers in and making everyone happy.

Why should I sign up?

Support Singapore’s bid for the Youth Olympic Games 2010 and show your love for Singapore! Plus prizes to be won when I find my sponsors.

Are you government-linked?

No, we are not. This is a community effort to show support. If MCYS wants to use this campaign to show the International Olympic Committee the ground support, I very much welcome it, but I do hope they inform us first.

If you are interested to find the official Singapore bid site, it should be at http://yog.youth.sg/ http://www.singapore2010.sg.

If this is a non-profit effort, why do you have advertorials on the site?

I have to keep the site going, but we’ll work out a way to return all excess proceeds either to charity or as prizes.

Why are you doing this?

Because I’m bored. No, seriously, it’s a community thing. The official site is pretty much dead, and does not allow Singapore’s web citizens to do something to support the bid. So here I am starting something. Like flying the Singapore flag during National Day, I suggest we fly banners on our sites.
